UIDAI has been successful in issuing more than 1.2 billion Aadhaar numbers to Indian residents. It has also helped in the disbursement of social welfare benefits and subsidies worth Rs. 1,600 crore through direct benefit transfer (DBT) mode. This has resulted in savings of Rs. 49,000 crore, which were earlier being siphoned off by middlemen.
