Clothing Last Longer
Making your clothing last longer saves your bank account and is also good for the planet. The fashion industry has become one of the major polluters. Hence, if you want to save the planet and your finances, you have to invest in quality clothes and bring attention to taking care of them to last longer.
Invest in quality clothes. Inspect the item to ensure their quality.
Investing in quality clothes is the most obvious tip to make your clothes last. However, some do not know that buying expensive clothes is not relative to their quality. Do not assume that expensive clothes are the best quality.
What you can do to check their quality is to inspect the seams. Cheap clothing has shabby seams; it easily unravels. Meanwhile, if you hold up the garment to the light, and it comes through the fabric, then the fabric easily wears out.
Wash often.
The convenience of laundry pickup and delivery convinces us to wash our clothes whenever possible. However, washing your clothes more often wears and tears their fabric more easily.
Not all garments have to be washed immediately; only undergarments are required to be washed after being worn. You can do some laundry tricks to keep your clothes clean and fresh after use. However, if the smell is already noticeable, it is time to send them to the laundry service.
Always read wash label instructions.
You can never go wrong when you follow the instructions on the wash tag label of the clothes. Follow the instructions strictly to ensure you are not damaging the fabric. Before you send them to the laundry service, ensure that you know the clothes are good for washing. Some clothes indicate “hand wash only” or “dry clean only” on their tags, and disobeying this instruction may cause damage to the fabrics.
Air dry clothes when possible.
If it is not raining outside, then it is better to air dry your clothes rather than placing them into the dryer. Dryers can potentially damage your clothes. Garments potentially shrink because of the heat in the dryer. Meanwhile, some apparel becomes stretched because the heat breaks down its elasticity.
Skip the trips to the dry cleaners.
Some clothes require dry cleaning. However, it should not be done all the time. Frequent trips to the dry cleaners are expensive and pose more damage to the fabric. However, it is the best cleaning technique for your clothes, the chemicals used during dry cleaning damage the fabrics.
Moreover, it does not only damage the fabrics but the environment as well. The harsh chemicals used in dry cleaning will go down to the drainage and bring damage to our environment.
Gladly, consumers have become aware of the environmental status and how the fashion industry has become a significant polluter. Eco-conscious consumers know that making their wardrobes sustainable is the first step in helping the environment. But doing this practice does not only save the planet but also save money on clothes as well.
